Activity 8
 |
Self Appraisal |
|
Purpose |
To provide a guide for self reflection by the protégé or to
stimulate discussion between pairs around the performance of the
protégé. |
|
Approximate Time |
20-30 minutes |
|
Resources Needed |

worksheet 8 for each participant |
|
Steps |
Participants use the questions on the worksheet as discussion
starters. |
|
Activity 9
 |
Reviewing Performance |
|
Purpose |
To stimulate discussion about the protégés performance. One
worksheet can be used to reflect on past performance, the other
to plan improvements for the future. This activity can be used
as part of the training program or given to pairs to complete in
their own time. |
|
Approximate Time |
At least 1 hour |
|
Resources Needed |
- Both partners
- A copy of
worksheet 9 for each participant |
|
Steps |
Pairs use the questions on the worksheet to stimulate discussion
around the protégés past or future performance. The mentor
should use these questions as a starting point only. Adapt the
questions to suit the needs of the protégé and your style. If
these questions seem too formal, change them. Listen to the
protégé’s responses and follow-up with an appropriate question,
not necessarily the next question. Alternatively, protégés can
use these questions as a tool to stimulate self-reflection on
job performance and directions. Discuss these reflections with
your mentor. |

Activity 10
 |
What Makes an Effective Mentor? |
|
Purpose |
To stimulate discussion on the qualities and characteristics of
effective mentors. |
|
Approximate Time |
20 minutes |

Resources Needed |

- A copy of worksheet
10 for each participant |
|
Steps |
All participants read the list on the worksheet and rank the
qualities and characteristics that they see as most important
for mentors to have, in order from one (as most important) to
ten. Mentors and protégés form separate groups to discuss their
individual ranking and develop a ranked group list. All
participants reform into one large group and discuss
similarities and differences between the two groups’ rankings. |
